What to remember

How to Trade

This matchup between two immobile, burst-oriented ADCs comes down to ability timing and positioning. Miss Fortune's Double Up (Q) is her primary trading tool - she'll look to bounce it off dying minions to hit you for massive damage. Position away from low-health minions at all times, especially cannon waves. Your Dancing Grenade (Q) functions similarly but lacks the guaranteed bounce damage, so use it when MF steps up to last-hit. Your Deadly Flourish (W) is your key advantage in this lane. When MF uses her Strut passive to reposition aggressively, landing W roots her in place and strips her movement speed entirely. Look for W opportunities after your support lands any damage - the mark window is generous. Your fourth shot is stronger than her sustained damage, so look to trade when you have it loaded and she's already used Q on the wave. The critical window is levels 1-3 where MF's raw damage output exceeds yours. Once you hit level 4 with two points in Q, your trading becomes more favorable. Never fight her when she has Love Tap passive ready on you - she'll auto-Q-auto and win every short trade.

Wave Management

Your goal is to hit 73 CS by 10:00 and reach level 6 by 7:31 - the data shows this timing matters for the matchup swing in your favor. MF naturally pushes with her Q bounces and E for wave control, so you'll often be farming under tower early. This is acceptable - your fourth shot executes minions cleanly under tower, and being pushed in reduces her all-in potential. Avoid letting her freeze near her tower before level 6. Without your ultimate, you have no way to contest a freeze against her superior early DPS, and her jungler can easily collapse. If she's pushing, let the wave crash and use your Q to thin it before it hits tower. Place Captive Audience (E) traps in the river brush and tri-bush to buy time against ganks - your survival to 5:52 (median first death timing) is the priority. After your first back, look to establish slow pushes into her tower. MF struggles to last-hit under tower without using abilities, and a stacked wave forces her to choose between CSing and trading. Your superior range with W lets you poke while she's occupied. When you hit 6, crash a large wave and look for Curtain Call (R) opportunities on her or roaming mid - this is where your gold edge starts to build.

Itemization

Rush Youmuu's Ghostblade components (Serrated Dirk first) for the lethality spike that amplifies your fourth shot and ultimate damage. The movement speed active also helps you reposition against her Make It Rain slow. The standard progression is Youmuu's into The Collector into Lord Dominik's Regards. Your first back should target 1,100g for Dirk - this is achievable with the 3,732g by 10:00 benchmark if you're farming efficiently. If you're forced to back early, Long Sword plus Refillable Potion keeps you in lane. Boots timing matters: get basic boots before completing Youmuu's if MF is landing Make It Rain consistently, as the slow makes you vulnerable to ganks and all-ins. Situationally, if MF rushes The Collector and you're behind, consider Phantom Dancer second for the survivability - her Bullet Time (R) will otherwise delete you in teamfights. Against heavy MF poke lanes (with supports like Lux or Xerath), Fleet Footwork with Legend: Bloodline provides sustain to reach your power spikes. Guardian Angel is essential as a fourth or fifth item since both of you die to being caught out.

Team Fighting

Both champions excel at teamfighting but in different ways, and understanding this determines who wins mid-game skirmishes. Miss Fortune wants to channel Bullet Time into clustered enemies, dealing massive AoE damage. Your job is twofold: avoid being caught in her ultimate, and interrupt it if possible with Deadly Flourish root or Curtain Call pressure. Position perpendicular to MF's likely ultimate angle. She'll look to funnel teams through choke points (dragon pit, baron entrance, jungle corridors). Your Curtain Call has longer range than Bullet Time, so in objective fights, look to open with R before the fight starts - even if you don't kill her, forcing her to reposition delays her ultimate timing. Your Captive Audience traps matter in teamfights. Place them behind your team to zone MF's flanking angles - she needs to walk into range to ult effectively. If she channels Bullet Time, immediately W her for the root, canceling the channel. In extended fights, your fourth shot crits combined with Collector execute will clean up targets her AoE damages but doesn't kill. Play for resets rather than opening damage.

Pro Tips

  • Track MF's Strut (passive) cooldown - it takes 5 seconds of not being hit to regenerate. Poke her with W or fourth shot every 4 seconds to permanently deny her movement speed advantage in lane.
  • Your W marks enemies hit by allied damage. Coordinate with your support to chain CC: if Nautilus hooks MF, your W root extends the lockdown long enough for a full combo including fourth shot.
  • MF's Bullet Time has a 3-second channel. Save Flash specifically to escape its cone during teamfights - don't use it aggressively in lane unless you're certain her jungler isn't nearby.

Common Mistakes

  • Standing near low-health minions and eating Double Up bounces for 200+ damage. This single mistake accounts for most lost trades in lane - always position away from the dying minion she's targeting.
  • Using Curtain Call at the same time as MF's Bullet Time. Her channel is shorter and she'll outdamage you in a stationary duel. Either ult first to force her repositioning, or wait for hers to end before channeling.
  • Pushing aggressively before level 6. MF wins extended trades early, and pushing removes your tower safety. Farm safely until 7:48 (level 6 timing), then look for plays with your ultimate advantage.
