What to remember

How to Trade

The data leans to Jhin here - Ezreal wins about 48 of every 100 across 12,050 ranked games. Ezreal's edge is punishing Jhin's fixed reload windows, not winning outright. Jhin's four-shot passive (Whisper) creates predictable windows where he must reload after his fourth shot - this is your primary trading opportunity. When Jhin uses his fourth shot (the crit), immediately E (Arcane Shift) forward and unload Q (Mystic Shot) plus auto-attacks while he's reloading. His reload takes 2.5 seconds at early levels, which is an eternity in a trade. Jhin's W (Deadly Flourish) can only root you if you've been marked by damage from him or his allies in the last 4 seconds. Play around this by staying healthy and avoiding his Q (Dancing Grenade) bounce damage, which marks you. If you see Jhin throw Q at minions, position so you're not the fourth bounce target - the damage increases with each kill. Your Q outranges his auto-attacks (1150 vs 550), so poke him down from safety before committing to extended trades. During this window, Jhin's level 1-3 burst with Q bounces and fourth shot crits can delete you if you're caught without E. Play passively until you have Tear and can sustain through poke.

Wave Management

Your wave management goal is to maintain a slight push or neutral state until level 6, then look to crash and roam or recall for Sheen components. Never let Jhin freeze on you - his W root combined with jungle ganks is your death sentence, and the data shows surviving to 5:05 (median first death timing) significantly impacts your win rate. Early game, use Q to last-hit from range rather than walking up. Jhin will try to bounce Q through dying minions into you - stand perpendicular to the wave, not behind it. If Jhin pushes with Q spam, let the wave come to you and farm safely under tower. Your Q makes last-hitting under tower trivial compared to his reload mechanic. Stack 2-3 waves then crash into tower - this denies him CS during reload animations and creates windows for dragon plays.

Itemization

Rush Tear of the Goddess on first recall (ideally 400-500g back), then build into Trinity Force. The Sheen proc synergizes perfectly with your Q spam and gives you the burst to punish Jhin's reload windows. Trinity Force into Muramana is your core build. Against Jhin specifically, consider Ionian Boots of Lucidity early for more Q pokes and lower E cooldown for dodging his W root. Your second item should be Muramana for the massive Q damage spike. Third item Serylda's Grudge is excellent because the slow makes it nearly impossible for immobile Jhin to escape your poke, and the armor penetration cuts through his inevitable Guardian Angel purchase. If their team has heavy dive, Frozen Heart third gives you survivability while still providing ability haste for Q spam.

Team Fighting

In teamfights, your job is to make Jhin's life miserable. His ultimate (Curtain Call) roots him in place for up to 10 seconds - if you can E to an angle and land W-Q on him during this channel, you force him to either cancel or die. Position to threaten flanks on his ultimate position. Jhin excels at cleanup with his movement speed from crits and long-range executes. Counter this by staying healthy and using E defensively rather than aggressively. Your sustained DPS from Q spam outscales his burst pattern in extended fights - don't let him kite around getting resets. End games before this point by using your superior objective damage (Q procs on Baron/Dragon) and siege potential. Your poke forces Jhin to either take damage or use his limited mobility to dodge, removing his threat from fights.

Pro Tips

  • Track Jhin's ammo count (shown under his HP bar) - engage trades when he's on shot 1-2, disengage when he's holding shot 4 for the guaranteed crit
  • Your E can buffer through his W root if timed correctly - input E before the root hits and you'll blink out after the brief CC, wasting his follow-up
  • Hit level 6 by 7:23 (data benchmark) and immediately look for cross-map R (Trueshot Barrage) plays - Jhin has no way to match your global pressure and must choose between following or farming

Common Mistakes

  • Standing behind low-HP minions and eating max-damage Q bounces - position to the side of the wave, not in line with dying minions
  • Using E aggressively before Jhin uses W - your Arcane Shift is your only escape from his root, and burning it forward invites ganks and all-ins
