ADC guide based on 14,628 ranked games from patch 15.3-16.12.
What to remember
- Ashe holds a significant advantage in extended trades against Jhin due to her consistent DPS versus his four-shot reload mechanic.
- Most early deaths land 2:00-6:00 (66% of them). Play safe there.
- Survive to 5:07 (median first death)
- Track Jhin's bullet count (shown under his HP bar) - all-in when he's on bullet 1-2, disengage when he's holding bullet 4 for the execute damage
How to Trade
Ashe holds a significant advantage in extended trades against Jhin due to her consistent DPS versus his four-shot reload mechanic. When Jhin uses his fourth shot (the empowered critical strike), he's committed to a brief reload animation - this is your window to activate Ranger's Focus (Q) and run him down with your passive slow stacking. Your Volley (W) outranges his Dancing Grenade (Q) bounce range, so poke him when he walks up to last hit, especially when he's on bullets 1-3 where his damage is lowest. The critical ability interaction to master is using your Volley to proc your Frost Shot passive, then chasing with auto attacks while he's slowed. Jhin's Deadly Flourish (W) can only root you if you've been damaged by him or his allies in the last 4 seconds - so if you trade cleanly with just Volley from max range, he cannot root you in retaliation. Be extremely cautious of his Captive Audience (E) traps in lane bushes; stepping on one marks you for his W root and can turn a winning trade into a death. Post-6, your Enchanted Crystal Arrow gives you kill pressure he cannot match with Curtain Call alone. His ultimate requires him to stand still and channel, making him vulnerable. If you land your R arrow from close range (1+ second stun), you can often burst him before he can respond.
Wave Management
Your goal is to establish a slow push starting from level 1, stacking 2-3 waves before crashing into his tower around the 2:30-3:00 mark. After the crash, let the wave bounce back and freeze just outside your tower range. Jhin's waveclear with Dancing Grenade is predictable - he needs to let it bounce through 4 targets for maximum damage, so he'll often push unintentionally. A freeze here is devastating because Jhin has no mobility to escape ganks, and your jungler can easily punish his overextension. Maintain this freeze until you hit your 71 CS by 10:00 benchmark. Avoid hard shoving after level 4 unless you have vision of their jungler. Jhin's traps make river control dangerous, and his W can set up ganks from fog of war. The exception is when you've chunked him low - shove and force a recall to deny him the gold income he desperately needs to hit his expensive Collector spike.
Itemization
Rush Kraken Slayer as your mythic - the on-hit true damage synergizes perfectly with your attack speed steroid from Ranger's Focus and punishes Jhin's lack of defensive stats. Your 3,488g benchmark by 10:00 should put you at Noonquiver plus Berserker's Greaves or close to completing Kraken, which spikes harder than Jhin's Galeforce/Collector components. Phantom Dancer second is optimal in this matchup for two reasons: the movement speed helps you kite around his Curtain Call and chase him during reloads, and the attack speed amplifies your DPS advantage. If Jhin rushes The Collector (which most do), your sustained damage will still out-trade his burst after one rotation. Consider an early Executioner's Calling if Jhin has a healing support like Soraka or Yuumi - his Fleet Footwork sustain combined with enchanter healing can negate your poke advantage. Against heavy AP threats from mid/jungle, Wit's End third provides both damage and survivability without sacrificing your DPS identity.
Team Fighting
In teamfights, your role diverges significantly from Jhin's. While he wants to poke with W and clean up with R from backline safety, you want to be in auto-attack range applying constant DPS and slows to multiple targets via Runaan's Hurricane bolts. Your Enchanted Crystal Arrow is a fight-starting tool; his Curtain Call is a fight-ending one. Initiate before he can set up. Target priority should be Jhin himself if he's ever in range - he has no defensive steroids, no dashes, and your slow prevents him from repositioning. If he channels Curtain Call, you have two options: if you're healthy, walk perpendicular to his shots and continue hitting priority targets (the slow from each shot is manageable with your movement speed); if you're low, use your R to interrupt his channel since the stun will cancel it immediately. Your Hawkshot (E) denies Jhin's flanking Curtain Call angles. Scout common ult positions (behind dragon pit, baron pit walls, jungle entrances) before objectives. A Jhin who can't find a safe angle to channel is a Jhin who contributes far less to the fight than you will with your constant presence.
Pro Tips
- Track Jhin's bullet count (shown under his HP bar) - all-in when he's on bullet 1-2, disengage when he's holding bullet 4 for the execute damage
- Your R travels faster the further it goes; at point-blank range it's easy to flash, so use it from mid-range (800-1200 units) for the optimal stun duration to burst window
- Place a Control Ward in the lane bush at 5:00 to clear his traps - Jhin players almost always trap bushes before their first back, and clearing them removes his W root setup
Common Mistakes
- Using Enchanted Crystal Arrow at max range in lane - the travel time lets Jhin sidestep easily; save it for when he's rooted by your support or committed to a trade
- Overchasing after winning trades - Jhin's trap placement and support CC can turn your aggression into a 2v2 loss; respect the 5:08 median first death timing and play for CS leads, not kills
