What to remember

How to Trade

This matchup revolves around understanding Jhin's reload windows and your weapon combinations. Jhin's fourth shot deals massive damage and gives him movement speed, so track his bullet count and avoid trading when he has his fourth shot ready. Your Severum (red) and Calibrum (green) combination is excellent for poking Jhin from range - use Calibrum's extended range to mark him, then follow up with Severum Q for sustain if he retaliates. When Jhin uses Dancing Grenade (Q) on the minion wave, step away from low-health minions to avoid the bounce damage amplification. Jhin's Deadly Flourish (W) can only root you if you've been marked by damage from Jhin or his allies in the last 4 seconds. Play around this by disengaging briefly after taking any damage to let the mark expire before re-engaging. Your Gravitum (purple) is particularly valuable in this matchup - if you land the root with Gravitum Q, Jhin has no mobility to escape, making him an easy target for your support's follow-up. Extended trades favor you significantly because Jhin must reload after four shots, while your weapons have 50 ammo each and you can swap freely with W.

Wave Management

Jhin naturally pushes waves with his Dancing Grenade bounces and will look to shove you under tower to poke with W. Counter this by using Infernum (blue) autos sparingly to match his push when needed, but be aware this makes you vulnerable to ganks since Infernum passively pushes. Ideally, freeze the wave near your tower when you have Gravitum or Crescendum (white) - Jhin's lack of mobility makes him extremely gankable when overextended, and your Gravitum root sets up jungle ganks perfectly. When Jhin backs or roams for Curtain Call (R), use the opportunity to hard shove with Infernum Q and crash waves into his tower. Jhin's waveclear is decent but not exceptional, so denying him CS under tower while he's absent punishes his ultimate usage.

Itemization

Rush The Collector as your first major item - the lethality synergizes well with your burst potential, and the execute passive helps secure kills on Jhin who will try to kite back with his fourth shot movement speed. Aphelios's core build of Collector into Infinity Edge maintains strong performance in this matchup. Consider Berserker's Greaves early for the attack speed, which helps you cycle through weapons faster and maintain DPS pressure. If Jhin rushes Rapid Firecannon to extend his poke range, match his range advantage by prioritizing Calibrum usage and consider Lord Dominik's Regards third if their team is stacking armor. Bloodthirster is valuable as a fourth item since the overshield helps survive Jhin's Curtain Call poke and his fourth-shot crits. Avoid Runaan's Hurricane in this specific matchup - you want single-target burst to kill Jhin quickly rather than AoE spread.

Team Fighting

Your Infernum ultimate gives you real teamfight output, but this lane is a true coinflip - about 50 of every 100 across 5,622 ranked games - so it comes down to execution, not a scaling gap. Aphelios deals approximately 115 more DPM than Jhin on average, largely due to Moonlight Vigil's AoE potential. Save Infernum for teamfights whenever possible - landing a 3+ person Infernum R can single-handedly win fights, while Jhin's Curtain Call requires him to stand still and is easily interrupted. Position to avoid Jhin's Deadly Flourish root during fights, as getting caught enables his team to collapse on you. Your Crescendum turret provides excellent zone control in chokepoints - drop it to deter Jhin from channeling his ultimate in favorable positions. If Jhin uses Curtain Call from fog of war, use Calibrum Q to reveal and potentially interrupt him with the mark follow-up. In late-game fights, your sustained DPS vastly outperforms Jhin's reload-gated damage, so surviving the initial burst phase means you win the damage race.

Pro Tips

  • Track Jhin's reload animation (he flourishes his gun) - this 2.5-second window is your best all-in opportunity since he literally cannot auto-attack
  • Gravitum R into Infernum swap is devastating against Jhin: root him with Gravitum ult, immediately W to Infernum, then R again for massive AoE damage he cannot escape
  • Place Captive Audience (Jhin E) traps reveal their location with a brief indicator - use this information to path safely and deny his vision control in river bushes

Common Mistakes

  • Fighting Jhin when you have Gravitum/Crescendum as your only weapons - this combination lacks range and burst, wait for better weapon rotation before trading
  • Wasting Infernum ammo on wave clear during laning phase - you need approximately 20+ Infernum rounds for a meaningful teamfight ultimate, manage your ammo economy
